  • Under permitted development rights in England, you can build a single-storey rear extension up to 3 metres for terraced or semi-detached houses and 4 metres for detached houses without planning permission. With prior approval through the Neighbour Consultation Scheme, this increases to 6 metres for terraced/semi-detached and 8 metres for detached houses.
